What the site is
The Depths is a free English-language adult furry webcomic, and every page of it is posted publicly on the site for anyone to read without paying or signing up. Its About page calls it "an adults-only webcomic featuring anthropomorphic creatures cast in a historical alternate-Earth setting from the 1920s through the 1930s." The lead characters are sea otters on islands in the South Pacific, and the story moves between those islands and the ocean around them. The site's own tags list adventure, drama, fantasy, mystery, romance, ocean and underwater, which is a fair guide to the mix. The About page describes the lead as a pearl diver and deep-sea explorer, and it places a reporter and a crafter in the cast, each with a profile that sets out profession, species, personality, strengths and weaknesses. The wider cast adds a manta-ray who fancies herself a storyteller and has psionic powers, and a French detective from Marseilles who appears as the lead's new love interest. Every main character in the cast list is stated as an adult.
The footer names "Scribes Unlimited Publishing" beside the years 2018 to 2026, and the About page says the story grew out of short stories written in 2009. The About page also introduces the writers and the artist, and a blog post from July 2026 describes the publisher as a small team running three adult titles at once. The site gives no company address.
The free offer
The comic is posted one page at a time. The home page shows the newest page under the heading "Page 151: Power" with its posting date, and arrows step back and forth through earlier pages or jump to the archive. A May 2024 post says that with most of the archive settled, "you can navigate them through storylines", so a reader can follow a story arc rather than scroll through dates, and the archive area lets readers "get a glimpse of pages before turning to them". A March 2026 post explains the format choice: the site dropped a vertical-scroll layout because "People still want comics they can read a page at a time, without having to scroll down so far." The whole archive was redone for that, so the comic reads like a printed page-turner rather than a scroll.
The comic is published under a Creative Commons license, stated in the footer: "This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License." Read plainly, the pages are open to read and share with credit, while reuse for money or altered versions is not granted. The About page also offers link banners and invites other websites to link to the comic.
The same team's other comics sit on the home page. "Insignificant Otters" is listed as a second title, and "Island Girls" carries the note "CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION: BACK SOON!" The July 2026 blog post describes all three: Insignificant Otters as a comedy about two shipwrecked otters, and Island Girls as a missing-person mystery set on Bora Bora in 1940.
The site has a fan side as well. The menu holds Fan-Art and Fan-Fiction sections beside Home, About Us, Contact Us, Blog and Privacy Policy, and the contact form invites fan-art "you'd like us to consider". The blog carries news and essays, from posts on site changes to a long July 2026 piece on the history of adult furry comics, and blog posts take comments with a name and an e-mail address. One post promotes a fantasy novel by one of the writers. Reading needs no account.
Updates come by e-mail or feed. The site offers "Subscribe for e-mail alerts of new pages, blogs & art!" with a nickname and an e-mail field, and the footer carries a "Subscribe: RSS" link. New pages carry their posting date, but the site sets no fixed schedule, so the dates on the home page are the only guide to its pace. The head writer can also be reached on Furaffinity, SoFurry, Telegram and by e-mail.
Where free stops, and the rules
Nothing in the comic is locked. The money side is early access and supporter perks, and the site says what each tier gets. As read in October 2026, the Support page lists a $5/month tier called Coffee Crew with "Access to basic supporter-Discord channels for early page releases", a $10/month Listed Supporter tier that adds a name on a supporters page and advanced supporter channels with sketches and work in progress, and tiers at $25 and $50 that add a credit under every page and character cameos. The highest tier, Creator Circle at $100/month, includes "One FREE commissioned artwork for every month you support". Supporters pay for earlier pages and extras; the story itself appears publicly on the home page.
The site also asks readers to back it through a GoFundMe fundraiser that covers all three titles, and the July 2026 post is frank that "it's running well below what it takes to keep three ongoing adult comics in production simultaneously". Page posts thank donors directly and promise that "More pages will happen faster". The site does not say whether it carries ads.
The rules are light. An age gate asks "Are you over 18 years of age?" with Yes, No and Remember me, and the About page calls the comic adults-only. The contact page offers a form for general questions and fan-art, plus direct e-mail routes to the writers and artists. The site publishes no takedown or record-keeping statement; everything on it is the team's own comic, with fan-art taken only by request through the form.
Who it suits
The Depths suits a reader who wants a long, story-led adult comic in one world: sea otters, island life, diving and mystery in an alternate 1920s and 1930s, with romance and sex as part of the story rather than its whole point. It suits a reader who likes to read page by page, follow arcs through a storyline archive and get new pages by e-mail or RSS, and it suits fans who want to send in fan-art or fan fiction.
The caveats are honest ones. Pages arrive at the pace funding allows, and the site says openly that its fundraiser is short of what three comics need. One of the three titles is paused. The layout has been rebuilt more than once, so long-time readers should expect a changed look.
Its strength is that the whole story is public and licensed for free reading and sharing, with the supporter tiers paying for speed and extras rather than for access.
